RECOMMENDED BICYCLE
Specialized Roubaix
Every crack, every pothole, every rough patch and bit of chip seal—the off-limits boneshakers to the smoothest homestretches—the Roubaix isn't resigned to a single day in France, it's made for every road, everywhere. And for models with the all-new Future Shock, rides are now even smoother and even faster.
When you're rolling smoother, you're rolling faster. And regardless of if you're on the cobbles of Northern France or the chip and seal of your hometown, you'll benefit immensely from the all-new Roubaix Comp. The frame is the lightest that we've ever made, and it's been constructed from our FACT 10r carbon fibre. Its stiffness levels are also off the charts, and compared to the SL4 iteration of yesteryear, you'll experience a whole new, faster, and more efficient geometry. Through some engineering sorcery, however, we've managed to keep the same fit, feel, and position that we've all come to love from the SL4. Of course, you're probably thinking, "get on to the suspension thing up front." We call it Future Shock, and essentially, it's a piston in the head tube with 20mm of travel.
Discover the mountain landscape of the Guilleries Massif through the main climb of this route: the Alt de Sant Hilari Pass, a winding road alongside the Osor Stream that ascends gently and progressively amid beech and chestnut forests, offering the very essence of the Guilleries Massif!
Departing from the Central Tourist Office of Lloret de Mar located in Carrer de les Alegries 3, we follow the north exit from the city along the GI-660 road in the direction of Vidreres.
This is a section of road with considerably heavy traffic that should be avoided at rush hour, from 8 am to 9.30 am and from 5 pm to 7 pm.
We pass through Vidreres and continue along the same road, which will take us to Santa Coloma de Farners and as far as the town of Anglès. This section of the route is ideal for building up a good speed.
Once we reach Anglès we take the GI-642 road that follows the valley of the Osor Stream, passing by the Osor Mines and the little village of the same name. The change in the landscape is striking; we’re in the heart of the Guilleries Massif, amid riverside vegetation and dense beech and chestnut forests. The road climbs gently but constantly for 25 km as far as Sant Hilari Sacalm, the high point of the route, situated 800 metres above sea level.
After crossing this pretty town with wonderful views of Les Agudes and Turó de l’Home, two impressive peaks, we begin a very steep descent on the GI-550, which takes us down to Arbúcies. We cross the town and continue to descend along the GI-552 as far as Hostalric.
In Hostalric we take the C-251 road in an eastward direction, heading for the link to the GI-512 road, which will take us through Tordera and on to Blanes.
From here, we have an enjoyable ride on the GI-682 road that leads all the way back to Lloret de Mar, the start and end point of the route.
Extension 1
We can shorten the route by taking the GI-551 road in Santa Coloma de Farners, which takes us directly to Sant Hilari Sacalm. This is a fantastic mountain road with no traffic. The route is shortened by about 25 km.
Extension 2
From Santa Coloma de Farners, we can head towards Vilobí d’Onyar along the GI-533 road as far as Cassà de la Selva and Llagostera. At this point we have two options:
- Return through the Alt de Sant Grau Pass along the GIV-6644 road or
- Return along the C-253 in the direction of Tossa.
In both cases the route is shortened by about 30 km.
